Vistage Chair · Washington & Hawaiʻi
Player Coach for CEOs & Their Key Leaders

You don't have to lead alone.

I chair Vistage peer advisory groups for CEOs and key executives in Western Washington and Hawaiʻi, and I coach key leaders one-on-one. After 30 years running a company, I know the answers come faster when you aren't carrying them by yourself.

Vistage Peer Advisory Groups

A room of CEOs who tell you the truth.

At the top, everyone around you has a stake in your answer. A Vistage group gives you a confidential room of fellow leaders who don't compete with you and don't need anything from you except honesty. Together you test big decisions, find the blind spots, and hold each other to what you said you'd do.

In a member's words
“Steve has been a consistently reliable and professional sounding board, and his leadership of our Vistage community has been a great asset to my growth over the past couple of years. I appreciate the thoughtful way he facilitates the group and supports my development as a business leader.”
Lane Kawaoka · The Wealth Elevator
“

I was a Vistage member myself early in my CEO career, in a group here in Western Washington. That room changed how I led, and it's a big part of why my company thrived for 30 years. Now I get to build that room for other leaders.

"People don't change because they're told to. They change when they see it for themselves."
Private Executive Coaching

Helping your leaders see what you see.

You've invested in this leader. They're capable, but something isn't landing. Coaching closes the gap between what you see and what they see, without you having to be the bad guy. Many of the CEOs in my groups use it for a key leader on their own team.

1

The CEO's View

We start with you. In a short, confidential conversation you tell me what you're seeing, where the gap is, and what "better" looks like.

  • Your goals for the leader
  • The specific behaviors to shift
  • How we'll know it's working
2

The Leader's Blind Spots

I meet one-on-one with your leader. Through honest questions and practical habit work, they discover the gap for themselves, which is the only way real change sticks.

  • Private 1:1 sessions
  • Weekly at first, then tapering
  • Focused on habits, not theory
3

A Team That's Aligned

Your leader owns the change and leads their people better. Communication improves, customers feel the difference, and you get your time back.

  • Clearer communication with direct reports
  • Better customer conversations
  • Less CEO time spent fixing

About Steve

A CEO who's sat in your chair.

For 30 years I led DRC International as its CEO, building a global lubricants and chemical distribution company from the ground up across Europe, Africa, Southeast Asia and the CIS. I know what it's like to make the hard calls alone, and what it costs when a talented leader isn't quite seeing what you see.

Early in that run I joined a Vistage group in Western Washington. It showed me that leading doesn't have to be lonely, and it shaped the leader I became.

Today I'm a Vistage Chair. I lead CEO groups in Hawaiʻi and Western Washington and a Key Executive group in Hawaiʻi, and I coach key leaders one-on-one. I'm a player coach, not a theorist. I get in the game with you, help you find the blind spot, and build the habits that close it.

Questions

Is this a fit?

The questions leaders ask most before a first call.

Who is a Vistage CEO group for?

CEOs, presidents and owners of privately held companies, roughly $7 million to $500 million in revenue with 15 or more employees, in Hawaiʻi or Western Washington. The Key Executive group in Hawaiʻi is for senior leaders whose CEO backs their growth.

How much time does it take?

One full day a month with your group, in person, plus a monthly one-to-one with me. Members who get the most out of it protect that day.

I'm already in EO or YPO. How is Vistage different?

Both are strong communities. What Vistage members usually point to is the full working day each month with the same group of peers, a professional Chair who facilitates, and a one-to-one with that Chair every month. Some leaders belong to both.

What happens on the first call?

A short, confidential Zoom call about you, your company and what you're working through. If it looks like a fit, the next step is a longer exploratory meeting, and you may be invited to visit a group meeting as a guest. No pressure either way.

What does it cost?

Vistage dues depend on the program. I'll walk you through them in our first conversation, once we both know which group fits.

How is one-on-one coaching different from a Vistage group?

A group is you and your peers working on your biggest issues. Coaching is focused work with one leader on specific habits, sponsored by their CEO. Many CEOs use both: the group for themselves and coaching for a key leader.

Where do the groups meet?

On Oʻahu in Hawaiʻi and around Puget Sound in Western Washington. Coaching sessions run in person or on Zoom.
